THE WALLENWINKEL
The Wallenwinkel is a small publishing house owned by entrepreneur and author Mariska Majoor, from Amsterdam.
It was established in 2003 and focusses mainly on projects related to Amsterdam’s famous red light district.

The most recent Wallenwinkel project is the publication of ‘Amsterdam Red Light District, The future of our past’.
Through personal stories about her past as a window prostitute and an open conversation with her daughter Robin, Mariska Majoor paints a picture of the red light district and the impact social debate and political interventions have had on this unique neighbourhood.
THE WALLEN, A SHORT HISTORY
To a large extent the Wallen, or red light district, has been responsible for shaping Amsterdam’s identity. And as long as it has been around it has also been the cause of much discussion.
The roots of Amsterdam lie here, in and around the Oudekerksplein, deeply anchored in the heart of our capital city and invisibly interwoven with the remains of those Amsterdammers who found their final resting place in the graveyard next to the Old Church.
